Logistics system for coordination
and fleet management of vehicles and containers.

Our task

Our task was to develop a system for managing a fleet of trucks and construction containers. The system was intended to use technology to improve the work of dispatchers, better monitoring of resources and automation of processes within the organization. As part of it, a web application for dispatchers and a mobile application for field employees were created.

Challenge

The biggest challenge during the implementation of this project was to analyze and understand the existing container management process and synchronization of many crews at the same time. We managed to break down the entire process into prime factors during a series of Research Workshops attended by specialists and Eneris employees. The research on personas and workshop work took us 3 months and resulted in an extensive Report with a list of recommendations aimed at optimizing the entire process through digitization, possibly at every stage of it.

One of the main challenges was to come up with a solution that, through a friendly interface resembling a calendar, will allow dispatchers to plan working days for all crews, avoiding empty runs. This optimization was to improve the profitability of logistics services and positively affect the number of orders carried out during the day.

Effects

Demanding work under time pressure has brought great results. All functionalities planned for the start of the application have been implemented and they work properly. Both the desktop version and applications for iOS and Android have successfully passed all internal tests, the testing phase on a selected group and have been successfully verified in application stores.

Eneris

Beacons + BLE technology

In order to modernize, automate and, above all, optimize the entire work process of the teams planning the daily tasks of Eneris crews, we decided to use beacon technology which is attached to 200 containers. It connects via BLE and automatically informs the driver and dispatcher that a given container is on the road. The purchase, programming and mounting of the beacons were also The Humans' tasks.

Tablets + dedicated application

In each specialist truck, we have installed dedicated tablets for the crews along with a mobile application. With their help, field workers and drivers communicate with dispatchers, report possible faults, and learn about their routes. The purchase, implementation of the application and installation of those devices were also our team’s tasks.

Achievements

The entire project was carried out and implemented by The Humans team. From the initial Discovery Phase (qualitative research and UX Workshops) through the Creation Phase (designing UX mockups and UI graphic designs) to the final Development (Frontend, Backend, integration and implementation). We were also in charge of installing 1,300 Beacons on all containers and trucks, along with training Eneris’ staff.
